The Sanctuary of Merciful Love of Collevalenza di Todi

Folklore and traditions

Collevalenza - In Collevalenza di Todi today there is a sanctuary to which thousands of pilgrims from all over the world flock. The Shrine of Merciful Love was commissioned by a nun, Mother Speranza, who, while still alive, already smelled of sanctity. Born in Spain, she founded her own order with a few other sisters despite being in extreme poverty.

Over time she gained fame as a mystic and seer and Karol Wojtyla himself, the future Pope John Paul II, went to her when he was still a bishop, in 1964. He returned there after the attack he managed to survive, and no one knows what the two said. Of Mother Speranza it is known that she received the stigmata, that she fought with the devil at night and that she slept on a stone pillow. The most prodigious event linked to her is the discovery of water in Collevalenza, where previously there was none. Now, however, inside the Sanctuary there are pools and it is said that the water is miraculous, able to heal infirmities of the body and soul. This the Lord said to Mother Speranza, according to the testimonies left by herself.
