Trip to the five chapels of the mysteries and to the bivouac of Monte Santa Croce.

Nature Culture Practical information

Monte Santa Croce. - From Pieve Ligure, a seaside resort in the Gulf of Paradise, you reach Pieve Alta from which the path to the summit of the mountain begins. The climb proceeds in steps between maritime pines, strawberry trees and between stone ridges, dry stone walls where the last row of stones is placed vertically, to prevent the passage of animals.

Reached a hairpin bend, the path narrows and flattens out surrounded by a wood of centuries-old pines. From this point up to the small church, the remains of five small stone votive chapels are flanked, with figures of the painful mysteries. At the top there is a terrace with the small church of Santa Croce and a small bivouac. The door is open and inside the room is welcoming, equipped with a stove with a supply of wood, table and chairs and a small kitchen, nothing is missing! The surrounding grove, where there is also a table and a bench here, overlooks the panorama of the gulf where you can see: Portofino, Capo Berta, the Maritime Alps and on really clear days, Corsica. The small church, dating back to 1200, is dedicated to the Madonna della Guardia, also depicted in the coat of arms of Pieve, of which the marble statue welcomes visitors on the portal. Hallelujah!
