The picturesque island of Procida

Procida - Procida is the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples and can be easily reached by ferries and hydrofoils. Unlike other islands, it has several beaches and low rocks that make the sea much more accessible even for families with children. Dominating Procida is the Borgo di Terra Murata in which stands the splendid Palazzo della Cultura which houses the Terra Museum where important archaeological finds can be admired.

In another area of the building there is instead the picturesque Graziella House Museum in which the interior of an ancient Procidan house is reconstructed. Not far from here the Ex-Prison rises above the sea, which can be visited through an exciting guided tour. A very suggestive panoramic point is the terrace of the Church of Santa Margherita. Also worth a visit is the ancient Borgo della Corricella with its colorful houses where local fishermen live. A place of great tourist interest is the Marina della Chiaiolella with its charming little port. An obligatory stop for those looking for a bit of tranquility is the Vivara Isolotto Nature Reserve. The island for its beauty has been chosen to shoot several films, above all the film Il Postino in which the unforgettable Massimo Troisi starred for the last time deserves a mention. Among the typical dishes of the place we find the escarole pizza, the caprese with lemon, the sweet casatiello and the sweet and sour beans. Strongly felt events are the Good Friday Procession and the Sea Festival.
