Castiglione del Lago - Castiglione del Lago is an Italian town of 14 737 inhabitants in the province of Perugia in Umbria. It stands on a promontory located on the western shore of Lake Trasimeno. The urban center is surrounded by medieval walls that date back to the period between the 12th and 13th centuries. On these walls there are three gates: Porta Fiorentina, Porta Perugina and Porta Senese (the smallest).

The favorable position has always been a source of contention on the part of Tuscany and Perugia; its most flourishing moment was in the mid 1500s, when Pope Julius III granted the territory to his sister, thus becoming a duchy; the ducal period lasted until 1617, when Castiglione returned under papal rule. Castiglione is full of places of artistic and cultural interest. Palazzo della Corgna was the main residence of the Della Corgna family (second half of the 16th century), it is the only small palace in Umbria. The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, built in the early nineteenth century, preserves the 'Madonna on the throne', by Eusebio da San Giorgio, a pupil of Perugino. The Church of San Domenico: built in 1638 by Duke Fulvio II, as thanks for the healing of his wife Eleonora de Mendoza (from a gangrene in an arm you can see the ex voto.
