Romano di Lombardia - Romano di Lombardia is a town of about 20,300 inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, located almost 24 km southeast of the capital in the eastern area of that flat area with a high density of urban settlement called Bassa Bergamasca, bordered to the north by the Orobic hills, to the east by the Oglio river, to the south by the limit of the province of Cremona and to the west by the Adda and Brembo rivers.

Dating back to the Roman Empire, in all probability its name derives from the settlement of numerous garrisons in this area, seat of a dense network of important junctions between communication routes. It then passed to the Visconti, the Republic of Venice and the Colleoni family and then merged into the Cisalpine Republic. After the unification of Italy the village gradually transformed from an agricultural center to an industrial reality in a Lombardy that was among the first regions to incorporate the potential induced by the advent of mechanization. In the historic center it is possible to find the most important signs of the Roman past, such as La Rocca Viscontea, the symbol of the city, a defensive quadrilateral equipped with watch towers and protected by high walls surrounded by a large moat, dating back to the 12th century, in full period of Visconti domination, and retouched several times over the centuries as evidenced by the different architectural styles that characterize it. Other interesting places are the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and San Giacomo Maggiore and the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin at the fountain. To promote the area, the town is the scene of various initiatives in every season, such as Vivi Romano, the Music Festival and Roman Medieval. Particularly interesting is the possibility provided to follow naturalistic tourist routes in the Serio Park, located in the heart of the city and managed by the Region, within which the Botanical Garden is located where the different floral and herbaceous environments present in the area are reproduced. , also usable with educational visits.
