Campotosto and its suggestive lake: a barren but fascinating mountain territory

Campotosto - Campotosto is a town in Abruzzo located in the geographical area of the Upper Aterno Valley. The municipality lends its name to the lake that is located there, and which is the center of a recently formed nature reserve. The body of water is the largest artificial lake in the region and is located at 1,313 meters above sea level. The village is typically mountainous, and the lake is one of the major tourist attractions.

In summer it is possible to practice sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and canoeing while in winter it can happen that it freezes completely or only partially. Trekking and jogging activities are also possible, as well as cycle tourism, and it is also an ideal area for mountain bike enthusiasts. The area is also very close to some ski resorts such as Campo Imperatore. Last but not least, fishing, in particular for trout and tench. The nature reserve extends for 1,600 hectares and falls entirely within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park.
