Mercatello sul Metauro. - Mercatello is located in the upper Metauro valley and is a medieval village, where the urban outline gives an excellent frame to artistic photographs. The medieval aspect is immediately proposed in the walk along the walls, high and reinforced by tower-houses. The 19th century restructuring has opened the space in Piazza Garibaldi, where you can visit the 17th century Palazzo Gasparini and the collegiate church built around the walls of a Romanesque building still visible.

The very clean streets are divided between the houses with arched openings and walls that follow the level lines, curving in the changes of direction. Walking towards the Doge's Palace, you can visit the Church of Santa Chiara restored in 1646 and the oldest Church of San Francesco dating back to 1200, in Gothic style. On top of a grassy terrace you reach the Palazzo dominating the village, which belonged to the Montefeltro family in 1474. Going down from Via del Metauro, you cross the gate leading to the Metauro river which, like the moat of a castle, surrounds the walls adorning them with mountain stones and beaches.
