Sovicille and its open-air museum: the Museo delle Pievi

Sovicille - The municipal area of Sovicille is characterized by the presence of gentle hills where human activity has changed the landscape in a way that respects the environment, creating a set of agricultural areas, natural spaces, small towns and medieval villages. The buildings that most characterize this landscape are the religious ones: churches, monasteries, and above all parish churches.

The municipality of Sovicille has identified 17 in all, among those of greatest historical and artistic value. They date back to a period between the 12th and 13th centuries and therefore date back to the Romanesque period. They, in fact, once constituted a system, a system around which a route made in stages was designed, one for each parish, which can be undertaken to make this dip into history and nature. Each stage is about 3 kilometers long, so it is also suitable for families. There are rest areas and green parks, and often outdoor events are also organized.
