Events Culture

Cureggio - Cureggio is a small Piedmontese town in the province of Novara; rises 289 meters above sea level and has 2,600 inhabitants. Cureggio is renowned for its shining jewel represented by the beautiful Baptistery of San Giovanni which stands right in front of the parish church of the Assunta. The Baptistery is one of the oldest in the region, on the outside it substantially retains its original Romanesque structure dating back to the 12th century.

It stands on a previous Baptistery dating back to the 5th century. Instead the facing church is the result of an important seventeenth-century reconstruction; the remarkable bell tower of the XII century deserves attention. Cureggio became the protagonist of an interesting cultural project: the TAM, a new multimedia space on the late antiquity and the Middle Ages in Novara. It is a beautiful cultural reality that was born with the intention of preserving and enhancing the rich but little known archaeological heritage of the area. Housed in the tower house, a 16th century building, completely renovated for the occasion, the TAM can be visited welcomed by three particular characters directly from the past: the beautiful Licinia, a young Roman woman of the 2nd century, the deacon Stephen, a character of fantasy and the noble Lombard warrior, whose tomb was found right at the entrance to the baptistery.
