Campione d'Italia - Campione d'Italia is an Italian municipality located in Switzerland. It is an enclave, and legally it is in the province of Como. The largest casino in Europe was located in the city, a majestic structure that unfortunately went bankrupt in 2018 due to economic problems. The city is located on Lake Lugano, suitable for swimming, which also represents an attraction for visitors for the viewpoint and the surrounding walkway. (continues below the video)
The town was born as a Roman military base, and over the years it has undergone several dominations also because the strip of land was often used as a bargaining chip. The church of San Zenone was the place of parish worship, but has been deconsecrated since 1967 and today is used as an art gallery. The new parish church is dedicated to the same saint but it is a much more modern building which preserves only the baptismal font dating back to 1576 from the old church. Another important place of worship, but above all panoramic, is the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Ghirli located on an accessible terrace. from the lake thanks to a monumental double staircase of four flights, it houses important cycles of frescoes.
