Zuccarello - Zuccarello is a small medieval village in the province of Savona. It was the capital of the Marquisate of Zuccarello, an ancient pre-unification Italian state. At the entrance to the town, visitors are greeted by a statue dedicated to Ilaria del Carretto, the marquise who belonged to the town's family. A path inserted in the cultural park of the Ligurian Riviera delle Palme is also dedicated to women, called the 'Path of Ilaria'. The name of the village seems to derive from the term 'zuccaro' which means support, or rounded hill. In the city center there is a small stone bridge over the Neva stream, which in the 1960s featured on a cover of the Times. The town is crossed by a single main street flanked by arcades, which starts from an ancient entrance door to end in the other. The village is rich in medieval references such as towers, gates and the Casa 'del Molino'. Another example are the ruins of the castle, located on an elevated hill above the town.
