Nature Culture Food and wine

Massignano - Massignano is a small village in the Piceno hinterland, located 5 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea and 254 meters above sea level. The town is surrounded by greenery, between the Val Menocchia and the Valdaso. Its charming old town can be seen very well from the coast. It has around 1700 inhabitants and a very ancient history. In fact, it seems that its name derives from Massinius, who owned a large estate in this area in 967 after Christ.

The town's vocation is mainly agricultural, but not only. Until 1970 the terracotta production industry was very flourishing here, which earned Massignano the nickname in the local dialect of 'Paese de li cuccià' (that is to say of the potters). In the historic center of the town the most valuable building is the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore, where a 13th century bell and a prestigious table by Vittore Crivelli depicting the Madonna in adoration of the Child is preserved. The most important festival takes place on August 14, it is the festival of fritters, the oldest in the Piceno.
