Santarcangelo di Romagna: a city to discover

Culture

Santarcangelo di Romagna - Santarcangelo di Romagna is a municipality in the province of Rimini. The city has Roman origins and there are many finds that date back to this era including the remains of kilns, amphorae, furnishings and bricks. A building of great historical value is the Pieve di San Michele Arcangelo dating back to the Byzantine period. Equally impressive is the Castle also called Rocca Malatestiana in honor of the noble family that once ruled this territory.

The city is famous for being the birthplace of Pope Clement IV to whom both the triumphal arch and the square in front of it were dedicated. Very beautiful is the Collegiate church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary which inside preserves valuable works such as a wooden organ dating back to 1700, a Giotto school crucifix and a splendid canvas depicting Saint Joseph, Saint Eligius and the Child Jesus. In the Parco della Fiera there are two picturesque fountains called the Submerged Meadow and the Stone Flowers. They were conceived by the local poet Tonino Guerra.
