In the meanders of the Basilica of Desio

Basilica di Desio - In the proposed video we can admire the splendor of the Basilica of Saints Siro and Materno, located in the center of the municipality of Desio, in Lombardy. From the first minutes of the video it is possible to be captivated by the beauty of the frescoes that adorn the roof and walls. The visit starts from inside the bell tower, exactly from the point where the bell ringer usually perform their concerts; the same also represents the ancient access to the Basilica.

Continuing in the meanders of this treasure chest of art, you reach a particular place, behind the organ pipes, whose place was the room where the night keeper of the Basilica originally slept, who had full visibility of the Cathedral through the peephole; the door opens in the middle of the fresco depicting the arrest of San Materno. The tour continues reaching the upper area of the central vault of the nave whose construction dates back to the 17th century and still retains the original structure. Then we reach the upper area of the entrance, above the Cappello del Gesù in the Garden of Olives and we can admire the counter-façade, built in the 18th century which still retains a small balcony in which in ancient times people used to go up to wind the clock which was originally placed in the tympanum of the façade where now there are two large angels holding the coat of arms of the Basilica. Reaching the highest part of the bell tower, it is possible to visit the area where the bells were originally placed and which today houses the clock faces; around 1830 the bell tower was raised and a new space was created to house the imposing bells.
