San Giovanni in fiore - At the center of the Sila Grande and on the slopes of Monte Nero, lies the town, immersed in the National Park and famous for the Florense Abbey. It was Abbot Gioacchino da Fiore who wanted to build it, in the second half of 1100, enchanted by the beauty of the promontory and by the spirituality inspired by mountain life. In Romanesque style, you can admire the Gothic door decorated with arched columns with palmettes and leaves.

Inside the crypt are kept the relics of the saint. It was only after Abbot Rota was commissioned to have the abbey in command that, thanks to the good governance of the lands, the inhabited nucleus developed. Here ancient traditions are still practiced such as weaving and the preparation of typical recipes, such as the sweet Pitta Mpigliata, for the Holy feasts, and the Turdilli with honey. Located on the confluence of the Neto and Arvo streams, the town is surrounded by forests of Pino Laricio, Silver Fir and Beech where you go trekking, meeting protected animals such as foxes and wild cats, up to panoramic peaks.
