Darfo Boario Terme: mountain and spa tourist resort, cradle of history and archaeological remains

Darfo Boario Terme - Darfo Boario Terme is a municipality located in the center of Valcamonica. The name derives from the union of Darfo, capital of the municipality, and Boario Terme which is its main hamlet. Valcamonica is known all over the world for its rock writings, a UNESCO heritage site, but it is also an area rich in history, well-being, nature and art.

The location is strategically halfway between the Mediterranean climate of Lake Iseo and the glacial climate of the Adamello area. It is a very famous spa town, but also important from a naturalistic point of view. The area is known as the 'garden of Europe' because thanks to the diversity of the climate, the biodiversity of flora and fauna is strong. A few steps from the center of Darfo is the archaeological park of Corni Freschi, where there are prehistoric traces in the rock engravings, and there is the large sandstone boulder called 'rock of the halberds'. but a visit to the municipal park of rock engravings of Luine, which has over twenty thousand engravings, is not to be missed. Very characteristic and ideal for visitors, is a stay at the archeopark, which offers the opportunity to relive a typical prehistoric day by stopping in the stilts, using the common objects of the ancestors, and visiting a Neolithic farm. Also characteristic is the castle of Gorzone, in the homonymous hamlet, belonging to the Federici family, dating back more or less to 1150. In the villages and hamlets that form the scattered municipality of Darfo, there are many places of worship, of different origins and styles: - the church of San Matteo in Angone; - the church of Santa Maria del Restello in Erbanno; - the mother church of Darfo, dedicated to Saints Faustino and Giovita.
