The history of Capri and its most evocative views

Nature Culture

Isola di Capri - The Island of Capri is a place that has many suggestive views. Capri is above all an island with a long history, inhabited since the Paleolithic. However, it was in the Greek-Roman era that it assumed great importance due to its strategic position. All the ships that came to the Middle East, in fact, had to pass in front of Capri, in the strait that opens between the island and the Sorrento peninsula. Thus, the Emperor Augustus decided to have a lighthouse built in the same place where a Greek temple dedicated to the goddess Athena already stood. Emperor Tiberius, on the other hand, had many villas built, as he moved from Rome to live here. The most impressive is Villa Jovis, which stands on a promontory over 300 meters above sea level.
