Civitaluparella - On a spur of rock, which rises to 903 m above the Val di Sangro, an impregnable castle was built, of origins that are lost in the mists of time. Around this, the outbuildings were built in a spiral with local stones, limestone or sandstone. Reachable only on foot or on horseback until modern times, it can be visited by climbing a thousand steps that from the lowest levels become steeper, reaching the Church of San Pietro Apostolo. Of this, built in the twelfth century and forming part of a Benedictine Abbey, in Gothic style, the steep slopes, protruding and fluted from the spire of the roof are particular. Inside is the statue of Sant'Agata who was tortured by her beloved and who holds her breasts in her hand. Protector of women's health, of their safety, she seems to tell us 'Look what happened to me, don't make the same mistake!'. Going further up, the ruins of the Castle can be visited, where Antonio Caldora took refuge in the 15th century, while trying to oppose the conquest of Ferdinando D'Aragona.
