The legends surrounding the Gropparello castle

Castello di Gropparello - Gropparello Castle has an imposing appearance, perched on a rocky spur and surrounded by woods. It is said that it is populated by many ghosts, especially that of the 'white lady'. This lady would be the spirit of Rosania Fulgosio. She had married Pietrone da Cagnano, even though she loved another man in her heart, Lancillotto Anguissola, a captain of fortune.

Her husband was often absent to fight elsewhere, but one day the Gropparello castle, known at the time as Rocca da Cagnano, was besieged. Defenses easily overcome, the enemy captain entered. Rosania refused to flee and begged for mercy for herself and her parents. But the man turned out to be Lancelot himself. The love story between him and Rosania resumed until Pietrone's return, who reconquered his castle. Heard of the betrayal, the man, mad with jealousy, walled up his wife alive who died in a short time. Pietrone also committed suicide. Nobody knows where the room is in which the unfortunate woman lost her life: today, however, many in the basement testify to have seen a wandering soul, in tears, and to have heard female cries coming from the towers of the castle of Gropparello.
