Marciana Marina, between fishing and beaches

Marciana Marina - Marciana Marina is a town of about 1,900 inhabitants in the province of Livorno, located at sea level on the northern coast of the Island of Elba, less than 10 km west of Portoferraio, the largest town on the island. The original settlement is Borgo al Cotone, a fishing village, leaning against the granite cliff of the Cotone, literally a large boulder, which constituted a shelter and a natural mooring, in which you can admire characteristic scenarios of life now rare to find, such as houses with walls corroded by the salt overhanging the sea, boats pulled ashore on the ancient stone slides or on the sand of the small ravines under the dry stone walls and nets stretched out on the cobblestones on the ground to dry.

A few steps from the seafront, between the alleys and the colorful facades of the houses, there is the small Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, where the Church of Santa Chiara d'Assisi is located, in neoclassical style, dating back to the end of the 1700s. tourism of the country is supported by hotels and accommodation facilities of all kinds able to satisfy any need of visitors and by the presence of the Marina di Campo Airport, very popular in summer but open all year round. The beaches in the Elba area near Marciana, all reachable in a very short time, are both of fine sand such as La Biodola, Cavoli or La Fetovaia, particularly suitable for families with children also because they are very well equipped, both of pebbles and stones such as Le Ghiaie, Sansone, L'Enfola and La Fenicia, certainly less crowded and more characteristic. Also worth visiting are the nearby inland towns of Poggio and Marciana from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding sea.
