How mullet fishing takes place in Orosei

Folklore and traditions

Orosei - The provincial territory of Nuoro is crossed by the Cedrino river, a stream that rises at 1316 meters above sea level and then flows into the Gulf of Orosei, in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mullet fishing is practiced in this river. At other times of the year, fishermen go out to sea with their fishing boats to fish for lobster, cuttlefish and octopus.

In particular, the collection of octopuses with traps is one of the main types of activities that are practiced. But other times, upon request, fishermen go to the river with simple rowing boats. A population of mullets lives in the river's waters, which are pulled up with the aid of nets and a very ingenious technique. A long net is loaded onto the boat, which is then spread out into the water as the boat moves forward by oars. The net, which remains in vertical position thanks to the upper floats, is arranged in such a way that the mullets, jumping and swimming, get entangled in it. Fishing is not always good, but sometimes it gives great satisfaction when you haul up full nets.
