Food and wine
Pelago - Pelago is a small village of 7730 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Florence located between the Arno river and the Sieve river. Its territory is characterized by vineyards and olive groves and has a great variety of flat, hilly and mountain landscapes. The historic center developed around the Conti Guidi Castle. Other important military buildings are the Nippozano Castle built around the 11th century and the Magnale Castle, of which only the church remains. (continues below the video)
Among the noteworthy religious buildings are the Pieve di San Clemente and the Oratory of the Santissimo Crocifisso. The local fauna is very rich, in particular in the surrounding woods there are several specimens of wild boar which are an important element of traditional cuisine. In fact, this animal is served in the Pelago festivals in different variations: in sauce, stewed with mushrooms, in white or in the ragù that accompanies the pasta. Another typical dish is potato tortelli which are recommended to be eaten with butter and sage.
