Grauno, the unchanged village

Nature Culture

Grauno - Grauno is a very small village in the province of Trento; it is the highest town in the Cembra Valley, with its almost one thousand meters above sea level. It is surrounded by green and dense woods whose timber has always represented a source of wealth for its inhabitants. Walking through the alleys of the village you can admire small squares with ancient fountains and the urban architecture is characterized by its immutability over time.

Grauno presents itself with characteristic terraces that decline from the back of the hill towards the stream, thanks to 700 kilometers of dry stone walls, which have recently become UNESCO intangible heritage. Dominating the splendid view of the village is the parish church of San Martino, built in 1863 on a previous site of worship. It preserves a precious altar among the finest examples of Cembran sculpture of the 1600s. Grauno is an important starting point for excursions on foot or by bike; there are various naturalistic and historical paths, among mills with still working millstones, streams and woods. Grauno is a unique mountain village, thanks to its traditions and its naturalistic heritage.
