Things to see around Cutrofiano

Cutrofiano - The Cutrofiano area is very rich in ideas for visiting. In fact, here you can visit places of naturalistic interest, as well as places of historical and archaeological interest. In the vicinity of the town there is a lake called della Signorella, which has a somewhat particular history. In fact, it could be defined partially artificial and partially natural.

In Cutrofiano there is a long tradition of potters, due to the presence of clay in the ground. The clay was excavated by creating large quarries. One of those quarries was filled with water again, and this is how the lake, now inhabited by ducks, was formed. Always moving around the town, you can find sites of archaeological interest such as the 8th century rock crypt dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. Very interesting is also the necropolis, which dates back to an early medieval age, which was excavated by the University of Salento. Finally, in the Petrore district there is an old tuff quarry, which was partly in the open air and partly underground.
