Ardor

Ardore - Ardore is a small town of Reggio Calabria, which extends between the sea and the hills. The town is divided into two distinct nuclei: Ardore center which makes up the oldest core and Ardore Marina which includes the port and the seaside area. The San Nicola faction and the Bombile district are part of the municipality. Ardore is a place rich in history and tradition as evidenced by the numerous vestiges of the past.

In Piazza Umberto I there is the main church dedicated to San Leonardo. Founded in the Byzantine era, it has three naves and inside it preserves works of art of a certain prestige; like the canvas depicting the Madonna del Rosario. The scene of the 'Supper in the house of the Pharisee' is painted on the vault above the altar. The ancient village stands on a hill, dominated by the imposing feudal castle of the Gambacorta family of 1600, built as a defensive structure and watchtower. The structure has a square base surrounded by four towers. Today it can be visited both outside and inside. In the hamlet of Bombile there is the sanctuary of the Madonna della Grotta, to access the sanctuary it was necessary to go up a staircase of 145 steps, through which one accessed a cave dug into the sandstone of a steep wall. The sanctuary was buried in a landslide in 2004 due to an earthquake. The miraculously escaped statue is found in the church of the holy spirit. The hamlet of San Nicola is interesting for its typical products, protagonists during the festival season. Typical products are: the cunzato bread with tomato and anchovies, the cunzato bread with mucciati, that is the leftovers of the pig when making frittole, the zeppole with anchovies, ricotta, pancetta, chialuni and sweet peaches made with pan of spain and cream. Ardore marina consists of beaches and tourist facilities aimed at the leisure of the tourist.
