Livo, a timeless village

Livo - On the left bank of the upper Lario, 4 km from the lake at 675 m. SlM at the start of the Comasche Prealps, you can see Livo, a small town of 161 inhabitants in the province of Como about 50 km northeast of the capital. There is evidence of an agglomeration of houses serving as a mountain pasture as early as 1335, but it is with the inclusion in the Duchy of Milan and the subsequent annexation to the Pieve di Gravedona that the town takes on a well-defined physiognomy.

Today the village appears as a place where time has stopped, with an ancient urban structure, almost entirely closed to traffic, characterized by narrow alleys with a cobblestone base, among which the grass often peeps out, which climbs in amidst the houses of exposed stone and wood with roofs covered with slate slabs, all exactly as they were 200-300 years ago. Livo, which has always based its existence on the slow rhythms of agriculture and livestock, has been able to exploit these factors to turn to a tourism far from the noise of the mass and in search of relaxation and sensory sensations that only a direct contact with the nature can offer. For this purpose, a wide range of trekking routes start from the center, free or with a guide, to discover the surrounding woods and mountains or towards the nearby lake. In addition to the inhabited area, the churches are particular, the Church of San Giacomo Nuova, in the center, dating back to the seventeenth century, in Baroque style with stone façades, and the Church of San Giacomo Vecchia, dating back to the 1400s, with a more medieval stylistic imprint. , with a gabled façade and an adjoining small cemetery, reachable via a path less than 3 km from the town, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. For a small refreshment stop, the tasting of local Pizzoccheri is a must, a full-blown delight, in total harmony with the atmosphere of the place.
