In the lower Piedmont, discovering Gavi

Gavi - Nestled between Piedmont and Liguria, on the right of the Nenne stream, in the extreme southeastern corner of Piedmont, today we are going to discover Gavi. One of the most important realities, both from a cultural point of view and from a strategic and territorial point of view, of the lower Piedmont, Gavi, is a medieval town full of peculiarities.

We are bewitched by the immense expanses of vineyards; in fact, right here, the famous Gavi is born, a centuries-old and fragrant wine that draws its origins from the Cortese grape. The history of Gavi has been linked for centuries to that of the Republic of Genoa; the chronicles speak of an ancient Gavi fighting with Rome and mentions the existence of a castle located on the top of the Gavi rock, in it legend has it that she found refuge from her persecutors, the Princess. Considering the strategic position of the place, we can assume the existence of a castle as a Roman garrison. So let's go and admire the consequence of a series of changes that the evolution of war weapons and the consequent different defense needs have made it necessary over the centuries. The Fort therefore represents the main monument of the village. Before leaving this village, we walk through the stone streets, enjoying the good Gavi.
