Trinci Palace

Foligno - Palazzo Trinci is a patrician building located in the center of Foligno. It was built between 1389 and 1407 by the papal vicar Trinci, in this period Foligno had an important cultural development. The building suffered major damage both from the earthquake of 1831 and from the bombings of the Second World War. The exterior has a neoclassical aspect with semi-columns decorating the facade, in the courtyard we find a fifteenth-century aspect; you enter from a portico that allows you to access another courtyard that has several porticoes with pillars and large vaults.

The entrance to the building passes through a staircase that is not the original one and has a neo-gothic style. On the first floor in the internal courtyard we find a staircase decorated with frescoes featuring geometric decorations; always on the same floor there is the part of the picture gallery dedicated to painting, made up of frescoes that have been removed from their respective places of origin. The monumental frescoed rooms are located on the second floor: - the room of Sisto IV, from the name of the pope who had the ceiling rebuilt by applying his coat of arms; - the loggia of Romulus and Remus, whose decorative complex, executed by Gentile da Fabriano, celebrates the continuity between the Trinci lordship and the Roman Empire; - the room dedicated to the frescoes on the life of the Virgin Mary from birth to death; -the hall of the arts and the planets, where the liberal arts are represented: arithmetic, astronomy, geometry, music and many others; -the hall of the emperors in which fifteen of the twenty original figures of great characters of Roman history can be admired. We also find a room dedicated to Giuseppe Piermarini, architect from Foligno whose most important project was the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Finally, the art gallery is made up of art objects from nearby monasteries that have become the property of the municipality.
