The picturesque Cirò

Culture

Cirò - Cirò is a tiny village of about 2500 inhabitants in the province of Crotone. In 1952 the hamlet of Cirò Marina separated from it, forming a separate municipality. The symbol of the town is the Castle of the Garafa dating back to the fourteenth century. Consisting of two corner towers and a crenellated bastion, the structure has undergone several renovations over the years and has been inhabited by illustrious figures such as Casoppero, King Charles III of Bourbon and Luigi Lilio.

Among the religious buildings, however, the Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria de Platèis is worthy of note. It represents the oldest church in the country. Very beautiful is also the historic Palazzo Adorisio which thanks to its position makes those who visit it enjoy a magnificent view of the town and the surrounding area. Among the streets of Cirò then you can meet curious characters such as Mr. Turuzzu Cariati, a talented musician who tells many nice anecdotes about his life and the town where he lives. Finally, the excellent local wine is a product of excellence.
