Nature Leisure and entertainment Folklore and traditions Practical information

Comacchio - Today we are in one of the lagoon towns in the heart of the Po Delta, in Comacchio. Its origin dates back to about two thousand years ago and until 1821 it could only be reached by water. In fact, the city stands on thirteen islands and the historic center is an intertwining of many small canals. Let's start visiting this wonderful town starting from Ponte Pallotta.

The bridge dates back to 1638 and is the symbol of Comacchio. Better known as the Trepponti Bridge, it was the gate that led to the city. Going down the central staircase we will find ourselves in Via della Pescheria, which forms the corner with the building where all the art exhibitions of Comacchio, Vecchia Pescheria, are organized. Continuing on this road, on the left we arrive at Ponte degli Sbirri, formed by three arches to connect the main water junction of the city. On the opposite side, we can admire the eighteenth-century Hospital of the Sick, designed by the famous Antonio Foschino. We then move on to Palazzo Bellini, which houses the Contemporary Art Gallery. We arrive at the Civic Tower, a nineteenth-century reconstruction of an ancient fourteenth-century tower and the Loggia del Grano, built between 1615 and 1623 by Gian Battista Aleotti. We then end with the Cathedral of San Cassiano. On the right side stands the wonderful Bell Tower and inside you can admire all its majesty.
