NORCIA TO DISCOVER

Culture

Norcia - Norcia is a medieval Umbrian village in the province of Perugia. Unlike the rest of the villages in the region, Norcia is located on the plain. Entirely surrounded by walls, it has seven doors that open along the walls. The heart of the city is Piazza San Benedetto, where most of the monuments are located; in the center of the square stands the statue of the saint who lived in Norcia between 400 and 500.

Here also stands the church dedicated to him, it is said that it stands on the plan of the saint's birthplace. Not far away we find the Town Hall with its beautiful bell tower and the 2 guard lions. Opposite is the small castle, a fortified residence of the apostolic governors. The pleasant civic theater in Piazza Vittorio Veneto is worth a visit. The Porta Romana is very interesting. Over time, the city walls have become walls of private homes. One of the oldest monuments of the village is the small temple, the work of Vanni Tuzi in 1354, with a square plan open by 2 arches. Finally, the medieval source, located just outside the walls, is worth a visit.
