The Carnival of Viareggio, the most beautiful and immense in Italy

Viareggio - Born in the late 1800s, when the boys of Viareggio well decided to parade on a wagon along the city, today we are talking about one of the most famous Carnivals in Italy and in the world, the Viareggio Carnival. The parades take place every year in the four weeks preceding Lent, usually between January and March. The symbol of the Carnival is Burlamacco.

Official mask, is a character who takes inspiration from the masks of the Italian commedia dell'arte; dressed in a long white and red checkered jumpsuit, a large black cloak on the shoulders and a felucca as a hat, he is always accompanied by a female figure, Ondina, who recalls the link with summer and the sea. The floats satirically depict characters from culture, sport, entertainment and politics and there is no protagonist of Italian public life who has not been portrayed in a caricature on the floats.
