The straw wagons of Irpinia, a World Heritage Site

Irpinia - The straw wagons of the municipalities of Irpinia have been proposed to UNESCO to be counted among the heritage of Humanity. The municipalities of Fontanarosa, Mirabella, Flumeri, Villanova del Battista and San Marco dei Cavoti (which is the only one not located in Irpinia but in the Sannio) have in fact met by mutual agreement in order to present this candidacy in relation to the Carri and to traditional Lilies.

To this end, the professor of Heritage Anthropology at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples has received the task of collecting the individual traditions of each municipality in order to be able to present a cohesive and univocal proposal, even in its multiplicity of expressions. For the mayor of Fontanarosa, however, it was equally important that the communities and administrations also participate in the presentation of the project. In fact, if academic institutions had the task of giving a precise form to the candidacy, it was even more important that people recognize themselves in such a deeply identifying tradition.
