The hermitage and the water: Sant'Erasmo a Roccagorga

Roccagorga - Going up from the town of Roccagorga you can reach the hermitage of Sant'Erasmo, a place that has different values for the territory. Getting there by car is not difficult and fast. On foot it takes an hour and a half. On the way you will pass through many places with speaking toponyms, which remind us of how once people lived here by cultivating the land, especially by planting wheat.

The hermitage is linked to the story of a miracle, according to which the saint made the water gush where before there was none. This is probably a narration from the Benedictine era. Where today the chapel of the hermitage stands, in fact, once there must have been a pagan temple, as some Roman finds would suggest. In addition to the church there are the hermitage and a fountain. In the seventeenth century the aqueduct was built which marked a new phase in the history of Roccagorga, which was then modernized over the years. Today at the hermitage there are wooden houses to welcome travelers and many improvements have been made to make the place safe.
