Nature Culture Leisure and entertainment Practical information Curiosities
Piani di Bobbio - The Piani di Bobbio is a ski resort in the province of Lecco located at 1 662 m. SlM in the heart of Valsassina, which with the neighboring Valvarrone to the north belongs to a mountain community including the Val d'Esino and the Riviera del Lago di Como, in the right area of the Lecco branch. Less than 2 km north of the municipality of Barzio to which they belong, there is a series of plateaus of different sizes that in the early Middle Ages were owned by the Abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio, which used them for the summer pasture of the own cattle. In the fifties, to meet the demands of tourism and winter sports, the land was equipped with a chairlift and then a modern gondola lift, becoming the usual destination for Lombard tourists. At the end of the eighties, given the increasingly large number of visitors, including international ones, it was decided to connect the slopes of this side to those of the Bergamo side of Valtorta, thus creating a single ski area of 35 km of slopes. With a view to a continuous expansion plan, in 1998 the first four-seater chairlift was built and the old ski lifts were periodically replaced with new, more capacious and functional lines. Numerous paths that lead into a spectacular unspoiled natural setting contribute to making these plans an indispensable destination for tourism of all ages in all seasons of the year.
