Nature Culture Leisure and entertainment Practical information Curiosities
Reggio di Calabria - Today we are in the city of the Strait: let's go and discover Reggio di Calabria. There are many tourist attractions, obviously excluding the wonderful view overlooking the city of Messina. We are greeted by the Athena Monument, which stands on the threshold of the Arena (or Amphitheater) of the Strait. Continuing along via Marina, we come to the Aragonese Castle, today the main exhibition site of the city, formerly a strategic point of defense. (continues below the video)
We then walk towards Corso Garibaldi, the main street of the city along which there are the main shops. We walk along a side street of the Corso and arrive in Piazza de Nava, where the famous Riace Bronzes are kept inside the National Archaeological Museum, as well as entire collections of artifacts from Magna Graecia. At the end of the Corso, on the opposite side of the Museum, on the left, stands the immense Cathedral of Maria Santissima, the largest temple in Calabria in a neo-romantic style. Inside we can admire the Chapel of the Sacrament, the most significant Baroque monument in the city. Before going to the discovery of the Aspromonte National Park and the Forti di Pentimele, we stop to taste the ice cream from Cesare, winner of multiple Italian awards.
