Assisi, the city of San Francesco

Assisi - Assisi is a town famous all over the world for being the birthplace of San Francesco as well as being a splendid medieval village. In Piazza del Comune there are structures of great charm such as the Town Hall, the Fountain of the Lions and the Temple of Minerva. The latter was built in the 1st century BC and is characterized by six imposing columns.

Next to it is the Torre del Popolo. Very beautiful are also the Church of Santa Chiara which rises on the homonymous square and the Rocca Maggiore from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the historic center and the surrounding valleys. The symbol of Assisi, however, is the Basilica of San Francesco which houses numerous frescoes representing the main events in the life of the Saint, made by artists of the caliber of Giotto, Cimabue and Lorenzetti. Inside the crypt there are the relics of San Francesco while outside the building there is the picturesque Loggia delle Benedizioni. Finally, a few kilometers from Assisi, the terrace of Mount Subasio is worth a visit, from which you can admire a fantastic panorama.
