The Predoi Mine Museum and the Climatic Center: the most strenuous nature in the bowels of the earth

Miniera di Predoi - Predoi is a town in the province of Bolzano defined as a scattered municipality. For years it was one of the most important alpine mining centers and for this reason many extractive industries were present and active until 1800. Today the business is almost completely at a standstill and there are only a few small wood companies. The town lives from the work activities of Prettau Energie and from winter and summer tourism, as well as from breeding.

However, the mines can be visited and one of them represents the fascinating Provincial Mining Museum of Predoi. Copper mining here began in the 15th century and continued for 500 years. Today, tourists are accompanied by a small train to discover the Sant'Ignazio tunnel, 1 km deep. You then continue on foot, along a specially prepared underground path that shows the working conditions of the miners. An ideal attraction for both adults and children, who can take part in interactive tours to learn while having fun. Furthermore, at a depth of 1,100 m, the Climate Center was opened, a place specially designed for the well-being of people with respiratory difficulties. The microclimate of the center favors the alleviation of the symptoms of chronic and recurrent pathologies.
