Brolo, pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea

Events Culture

Brolo - Brolo is a Sicilian town in the province of Messina. It has 6,000 inhabitants and is considered, for good reason, the pearl of the Tyrrhenian coast. The first impact with Brolo is certainly represented by the colors and smells of its splendid sea; a very wide beach with crystalline waters and the singular rock, placed in front of the beach, kidnap the visitor.

The name derives from the Latin 'brolium' which means garden, park. Every year on the occasion of the feast of the sea, the statue of Christ of the abyss, placed on the seabed right in the direction of the rock, is made to re-emerge and hoisted on the rock itself, where it will remain for a few days. A relaxing walk along the seafront is not to be missed, admiring the imposing silhouette of the castle on one side and the glorious rock on the other. The castle arouses wonder, amazement, respect; preceded by a delightful historic village from which you can enjoy a spectacular view. The tower of the castle dominates majestic and imposing; Princess Bianca Lanza still seems to be waiting to welcome her, who in 1246 became the wife of Frederick II, and had residence in this castle. The manor stands on an enchanting rocky promontory overlooking the sea, bordered by the ancient walls. Its foundation dates back to the 10th century, with the aim of protecting the beaches below from pirate invasions, being able to dominate a vast stretch of coast from its position. A visit deserves the Mother Maria Santissima Annunziata church, built in 1764, preserves paintings and frescoes of exquisite workmanship; is celebrated on March 25th.
