Merano, everything speaks of Sissi

Culture Folklore and traditions

Merano - Merano is a large town in the province of Bolzano; rises 325 meters above sea level and has 40,000 inhabitants. It is surrounded by very high mountains, some reaching 2,000 meters, but in the city the climate is Mediterranean and very pleasant. today. Spa tourism developed in Merano about 180 years ago and the Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria was one of the most famous first guests; after his stay there was a real and true boom of noble and aristocratic presences. Today's thermal baths and Merano in general owe her a lot. In her memory and honor a park with an adjoining statue has been dedicated to her. Slightly out of town is the Trattmansdorff castle; it was the residence of the empress during her stay in Merano; it is a typical example of a medieval South Tyrolean castle; abandoned by the owners over the centuries, also this time it was Sissi who gave new life to the castle with her presence. Today the castle houses a modern provincial museum of tourism, with futuristic installations that, by exploiting the fun, transfer culture to visitors. The rooms of the castle maintain the period furnishings and alternate seamlessly with museum objects.
