The Maison Berton Museum in Le Thuile

Culture

Le Thuile - The Maison Berton museum was inaugurated in Le Thuile in 2015, occupying the spaces where the mother of the Berton brothers once lived, and later the writer Robert Berton. The visitor can observe with his own eyes the multiple interests of the writer and collector. The rooms are in fact furnished in an eclectic way. The wooden masks that Berton loved, and which were once scattered in every room of the house, have all been grouped on a single wall.

The same was done for the chairs, which are different from each other. In other rooms there are both modern furnishings and antique objects, such as sixteenth-century candelabra. All this is the result of the antiquarian interest of the writer and his brother. The museum also exhibits many of the drawings that Berton loved to adopt for his books, as he did not like photographs. There are illustrations by nationally known artists, depicting the valley's castles and the most important churches. The museum was financed with European funds.
