The Masseria "La Duchessa", whose primitive construction dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, is located in the ancient fiefdom of casale Bucitina or Vocettina, whose feudal lord, in 1284, was Baron Rainaldi: later, in 1383 the fiefdom was donated to Baron Bernardo Sambiase by the Taranto Raimondello del Balzo Orsini. From the archive sources it can be seen that around the middle of the 1600s Giuseppe Natale of Lequile owned it. The wife of these. Donna Vincenxa Antonuccia, widowed, in 1693 founded a conspicuous Ecclesiastical Benefìcio of 500 ducats in the Church of the Masseria dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Carmine, where Mass was celebrated until the first half of the 15th century. In the 1700s, agricultural production and that of pastoralism was increased thanks to the commitment of Raymond and Gironimo Natale, father and son, who, in the meantime, also became owners of the Masserie "Monteruga", "li Ciurli!, "li Peliti" and "Santa Venia", became part of the nobles of Naples with the title of "Magnifico". Later, between different vicissitudes, the property i pass to the Cosmas of Novoli, then to the Licci di Campi. After many decades of total abandonment with consequent condemnation of ruin, in 1998, the Nicolaci di Veglie, the current owner family, with great tenacity renovated the building bringing it back to its former splendors adapting it to new needs with five fourteen-bed apartments and with large halls for various ceremonies. The exquisite hospitality to tourists who want to enjoy a healthy and quiet rural stay in a historic environment and the tasting of typical dishes is local products, the result of the generous land cultivated by nicolaci themselves contribute, in their own right, to consider "La Duchessa" an important piece of the wonderful agritourism mosaic of Salento.
