Botticino and its precious marble

Nature Culture

Botticino - Botticino is a municipality in the Brescia hinterland which has the peculiarity of being divided into two parts: Botticino Sera and Botticino Mattino. It seems that the subdivision is to be attributed to a writing by the Risorgimento hero Tito Speri, who stayed here. It is due to the fact that the town is divided in two by a hill: one part is to the east and the other to the west.

One of the productions for which Botticino is most famous in the world is its marble, called classic Botticino. The Altar of the Fatherland in Rome was built with this marble, as well as the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York and the White House. A monolith was also built with Botticino marble, which was then positioned in the middle of nature. The monolith is located in a place called the 'chapel of silence', where you can go to pray and meditate. Last but not least, the bell tower of the town's central church is also made of local marble. Another source of pride for Botticino is the presence of a study center on ancient fencing. In this center you can not only consult valuable artifacts, such as books and period weapons, but you can attend a real school.
