In particular, entering from Porta Santo Stefano you will arrive in the heart of the city, reaching Piazza Roma with the Palazzo Ducale, which belonged to the Caracciolos, seat of the Town Hall. The facade has features of the late mannerism, with horizontal and vertical elements, designed by the architect Carducci. All the alleys of the center converge in the square with the Cathedral of San Martino, protector of the city. Built in 1747, on the ruins of a pre-existing Romanesque church, it is in Baroque style. On the façade, clear and sculpted, you can admire the high relief of San Martino who gives his cloak to a beggar. The interior of the Cathedral is structured in a nave with 18th century statues by Giuseppe Sanmartino and polychrome marble altars.
